Camira is the latest local company to sign up as a sculpture sponsor and will be joining forces with an artist to decorate their very own large Snowdog ahead of Kirklees’ most anticipated art event of the year.
The Kirkwood’s Snowdogs Support Life, Kirklees art trail will see Raymond Briggs’ much-loved canine character come to life through an interactive display across the local area, animating our beautiful towns and villages with over 60 showstopping Snowdog sculptures.
A global company, Camira designs and manufactures textiles for commercial and transport interiors. Renowned for its sustainability work, the company has pioneered the development of a range of fabrics made from naturally renewable and recycled materials, recently launching an award-winning collection made from marine plastic waste. With six sites across Kirklees, including a 250,000 sq.ft manufacturing facility in Meltham and a head office in Mirfield, Camira is well known throughout the borough, providing a wide range of job opportunities.
The company chose their favourite design for their Snowdog at the art selection event on Thursday 3rd March. At the event, artists from across the country presented their creative impressions to sponsors and the chosen designs will be hand-painted onto sculptures and placed along the trail in key public and urban spaces.
Camira is already a long-standing supporter of The Kirkwood’s Business Movement, a network of local businesses which have united to support the charity and raise awareness of its services.
On joining the art trail, Alan Williams, Chief Executive Officer at Camira, comments: ‘We’re delighted to sponsor Snowdogs Support Life, Kirklees. This is an amazing initiative, not just raising money for The Kirkwood – an organisation close to our hearts at Camira – but also to showcase Kirklees and all it has to offer. It’s a brilliant place to live, work and visit, so we’re looking forward to our region being filled with works of art for people to enjoy throughout Autumn.’
Inspired by the much-loved animated film, The Snowman™ and The Snowdog, the sequel to Raymond Briggs’ classic picture book and film The Snowman™, Snowdogs Support Life, Kirklees will bring the magic of The Snowdog character to life through an extraordinary public art trail.
Organised by The Kirkwood in partnership with Wild in Art and Snowman Enterprises Ltd, Snowdogs Support Life, Kirklees is a free large scale art event and will show off the very best creative talent from local, regional and national artists. As part of this one of a kind public art event in West Yorkshire, businesses are being given the opportunity to sponsor one of the individually designed Snowdog sculptures. This presents businesses with a unique and exciting way to promote their business throughout the local area.
The trail will help raise awareness and essential funds for The Kirkwood as they continue their work to help and support those living with a life limiting illness in Kirklees, while encouraging visitors from far and wide to explore new parts of our region.
Snowdogs Support Life, Kirklees will launch in September 2022.
