Dewsbury Creative Town and Dewsbury Heritage Action Zone take collaborative approach to widen the reach of art trail sponsorship

Two Kirklees Council funded initiatives have signed up to become the latest sculpture sponsors for West Yorkshire’s largest ever free public art trail, Snowdogs Support Life, Kirklees helping to generate more footfall across our region.

Managed by Kirklees Council and in partnership with Historic England, Dewsbury Heritage Action Zone was launched in 2018 to help boost economic growth in the town. The scheme invests in ways to help breathe new life into Dewsbury, making it a more attractive place for residents, businesses and investors alike.

The Dewsbury Creative Town Arts Programme has teamed up with Heritage Action Zone to widen the impact of the art trail across the town and into neighboring localities. A natural fit for the programme, Dewsbury Creative Town was established by Kirklees Council to organise and commission public art events throughout the town.

The programme incorporates all manners of artwork, from 3D sculptures and street furniture, through to signage and murals are delivered, transforming the Dewsbury area with spectacular creative projects for all to enjoy. The aim is to provide those who live and work in Dewsbury with an array of opportunities to engage with art, all whilst creating a unique platform for emerging and established talent to showcase their creativity within the public realm.

The organisations have joined together to sponsor one of the trail’s large sculptures and will work closely with one of our artists as they watch their chosen design come to life.

Dewsbury Creative Town and Heritage Action Zone are also sponsoring a Snowdog pup for a local school, which will see children coming together to create their very own sculpture. The creative learning project will promote collaborative working and creativity among pupils – and is set to be lots of fun for children and teachers alike.

Inspired by the much-loved animated film, The Snowman™ and The Snowdog, the sequel to Raymond Briggs’ classic picture book and film The Snowman™, Snowdogs Support Life, Kirklees will bring the magic of The Snowdog character to life through an extraordinary public art trail.

Organised by The Kirkwood in partnership with Wild in Art and Snowman Enterprises Ltd, Snowdogs Support Life, Kirklees will be a free large scale art event and will show off the very best creative talent from local, regional and national artists. As part of this one of a kind public art event in West Yorkshire, businesses are being given the opportunity to sponsor one of the individually designed Snowdog sculptures. This presents businesses with a unique and exciting way to promote their business throughout the local area.

The trail will help raise awareness and essential funds for The Kirkwood as they continue their work to help and support those living with a life limiting illness in Kirklees, while encouraging visitors from far and wide to explore new parts of our region.

Snowdogs Support Life, Kirklees will launch in September 2022.
