A Wild in Art event brought to you by The Kirkwood.

Kirklees College inspire artistic talent by signing up to Snowdogs Support Life, Kirklees

Kirklees College has joined the network of businesses and organisations taking part in the region’s most anticipated art event, Snowdogs Support life, Kirkless, as the latest sponsor of a giant Snowdog sculpture.

One of the biggest colleges in the country, Kirklees College offers further education to the people of Kirklees and the surrounding areas.

The college will be sponsoring a Snowdog sculpture, which will be dectorated by an artist of their choice. At the art selection event, the college selected their favourite design from a range of submissions and will soon unveil which talented artist they will partner with.

The college will be pushing the creative capability of their students, encouraging them to get involved and submit their own designs for consideration at the event. So far, one alumni has had their artwork commissioned and they will soon start work on handpainting their design onto a Snowdog.

Steve Plumstead, Curriculum Area Manager for Creative Industries at Kirklees College comments: “We are really proud of the work that we do to support The Kirkwood and are excited to have our students involved in this milestone project. Our students have already submitted some designs as part of the project which has allowed them to express their creativity and work on a fun live brief that will showcase the future artistic talent we have on our Art and Design programmes.

“We hope that the art trail will allow Kirklees College to promote our partnership with The Kirkwood and connect with the local community through these new sculptures.”

Inspired by the much-loved animated film, The Snowman™ and The Snowdog, the sequel to Raymond Briggs’ classic picture book and film The Snowman™, Snowdogs Support Life, Kirklees, this public art trail will launch in September 2022 and be live for eight weeks.

Organised by The Kirkwood in partnership with Wild in Art and Snowman Enterprises Ltd, Snowdogs Support Life, Kirklees will be a free large scale art event and will show off the very best creative talent from local, regional and national artists. As part of this one of a kind public art event in West Yorkshire, businesses are being given the opportunity to sponsor one of the individually designed Snowdog sculptures. This presents businesses with a unique and exciting way to promote their business throughout the local area.

The trail will help raise awareness and essential funds for The Kirkwood as they continue their work to help and support those living with a life limiting illness in Kirklees, while encouraging visitors from far and wide to explore new parts of our region.
