Locala is a not-for-profit social enterprise that is proud to provide a variety of NHS community healthcare services to people in Kirklees, Calderdale and Bradford.

Those services care for, and support people, from before birth to end of life, ranging from health visitors to physiotherapy, and sexual health to district nursing, as well as dental care, school nurses, and foot care

Our colleagues always aim to provide high quality, value for money care and support people closer to home.

We’re a not-for-profit social enterprise, so we are in the great position of having the flexibility to tailor our services to meet the needs of our communities – and any financial surplus is re-invested straight back into supporting patient care.

We work closely with GPs, Social Services, other local NHS organisations and Local Authorities to deliver a co-ordinated approach to care and support.

How we got here

Locala was created in 2011 to take on the NHS community healthcare services previously provided as part of Kirklees Primary Care Trust. There was an ambition and determination to be flexible and innovative. A year later the number of services provided started to grow, and a vision developed for the organisation’s digital journey.

In October 2015 Locala was awarded the Kirklees Care Closer to Home contract, and two years later was awarded the ambitious Thriving Kirklees contract, and then the contract to provide Calderdale Public Health Early Years Service.

Locala now also provides services in Bradford, as well as Kirklees and Calderdale.

The number of colleagues employed by Locala has grown from 900 in 2011 to around 1,500 in 2018.
