All systems are go for the Snowdogs team after we officially took delivery of over 60 Snowdog sculptures over the past couple of weeks and began distributing them across the country to be decorated. We also enjoyed the first few days in our exciting new painting space. Take a look at what we’ve been up to as we start to prepare for West Yorkshire’s biggest ever free public art trail.
A very special delivery
Much to the delight of our sponsors and artists, our Snowdog sculptures have now arrived safely ready to be given their unique makeover ahead of September’s art trail. Made from fibreglass and weighing in at around 30kg, each large Snowdog requires four people to lift them, so it was all hands on deck to make sure our canine friends made it off the trucks in one piece. We’re hugely grateful to the tireless helpers from local building contractor Illingworth & Gregory, who helped us to safely take delivery of the Snowdogs and distribute them to local schools.
The Kirkwood have also been joined by a tenacious team of volunteers from our Logistics Partner, DHL Supply Chain. Thanks to them, our Snowdogs have made some incredible journeys to artists all over the UK, from Brighton to Scotland!
While some sculptures headed straight to our artists in far flung corners of the UK, many of them were delivered to our dedicated painting area; a collaborative working space, where artists from up and down the country can take the time to hand-paint their designs and get to know others who are joining the trail.
Take a look at our painting space
We are incredibly fortunate to have been supported by Huddersfield BID to launch a shared painting space in the Piazza Shopping Centre in Huddersfield town centre. A thriving creative space, artists can bring their painting supplies and design ideas with them to start turning their vision into a reality. Not only is the space a great opportunity for our commissioned artists to come together and inspire one another, it will also offer the public a unique glimpse behind the scenes, allowing them to see our Snowdogs magically transform over the coming months.
If you would like to have a peek at some of the Snowdogs as they are brought to life, come and have a peek at the old Poundworld premises in the Piazza Shopping Centre. The shopfront is brightly branded to make us easier to find, but hurry – we’re only around until the end of May!
Be sure to follow us on social media as we document the journey of our Snowdogs.
